Chemical Management
Going Beyond Legal Requirements
Chemicals are present in many of the materials and products we use every day. Certain substances may pose risks to human health and the environment. At AD company, chemical management is therefore an important part of our approach to product quality, safety and responsible sourcing.
Chemical legislation is extensive and often complex. That is why we work closely with an independent chemical compliance expert who helps us interpret regulations, assess risks and stay informed as requirements evolve.
We Set Our Own Additional Requirements
Our chemical control programme is based on EU legislation, including the REACH Regulation and the Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Regulation. But we do not stop at meeting legal requirements.
We have developed our own chemical requirements that our suppliers are expected to follow. Through risk assessments, we identify substances and materials that require particular attention. We also set requirements for selected substances that are not yet subject to specific legal restrictions.
One example is PFAS, a large group of chemicals that have been used to make materials water-, grease- and stain-repellent. We do not accept intentionally added PFAS in our products, and laboratory testing is part of our approach to monitoring chemical content.
Independent Laboratory Testing and Follow-up
Chemical management is not just about setting requirements – it is also about verifying compliance.
We establish clear chemical specifications for our suppliers and use independent laboratories to analyse products and materials. The tests carried out depend on factors such as product composition, intended use and identified risks.
Our testing strategy covers both new products and the ongoing monitoring of existing products. We also review the need for additional testing when legislation changes or when there is uncertainty about materials or manufacturing processes.
What Do We Test For?
Our chemical control programme covers a wide range of substances that may be present in different materials and products.
Depending on the material and risk assessment, our controls include substances such as PFAS, heavy metals, phthalates and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). We also conduct screening for Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) under REACH and monitor developments in chemical restrictions.
By combining laboratory analysis, supplier requirements and external expertise, we work systematically to verify that our products meet both applicable chemical regulations and our own specifications.
Sharing Our Knowledge
We know that chemical regulations can be challenging to navigate, particularly for companies sourcing products from suppliers outside the EU. As an importer, it is important to understand the applicable requirements, the documentation needed and the responsibilities involved in placing products on the market.
That is why we have developed a guide to chemicals and REACH, sharing our knowledge of regulations, potential risks and responsibilities throughout the purchasing process.

For us, chemical management is about combining knowledge with practical action – helping our customers make better-informed product decisions.
